Wisconsin is one of 14 states that cover adults through the state children’s health insurance program, administered federally.
Wisconsin has a Medicaid waiver that allows it to continue the coverage.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt has singled out Wisconsin as an example of how the program has expanded well beyond the low-income children it was intended to serve.
Leavitt says Wisconsin covers almost twice as many adults as children. He says 75 percent of the program’s funds are spent on adults in Wisconsin.
