Apex and I have a special relationship. We’ve dated since 2002 and like most first relationships, I went into it insecure, nervous, and eventually became codependent. They could do no wrong. Heck, they were the once cutting me checks for over $34k per month! How could I love any other?
And leave them?
I tried it once. I told them it was over. I wrote them a letter and everything. I said, I needed to see other companies. Maybe we can just stay friends. We did. In fact, I’ve never been “courted” so much in my life. I was offered free golf, a country club membership, free lunches, whatever. All in an attempt to keep me in the relationship. But alas, I needed to “take a break.”
I met a new company. ABC Financial flew me to Little Rock, Arkansas. I ate the BBQ of my life. I stayed in the infamous Exelsior Hotel (now the Peabody) where Bill Clinton allegedly exposed himself to Paula Jones in 1991. And I was swept off my feet. I even signed a “pre-nup.”
But when I got back and saw Apex one more time, I was promised the world and was presented with the “divorce settlement.” If I was going to leave Apex, I was going to pay…$10,000 give or take ($5 per member).
Well I’m not an expert on much, but I do know money. And I was married to my money.
Now that I can switch to ABC for free. I’m sorry Apex, but I’m going to have to go for real this time.
And like any other co-dependant relationship, I’m going to have a hard time letting go. Why? Who knows. Why did Hillary stay with Bill? I guess we’ve always needed each other and it’s been a true relationship of convenience.
Corporate Matchmaker
One source in the corporate office even went so far as to tell me, “If Apex is gone by August, I’ll be happy.” It appears the Anytime/Apex honeymoon is officially over. They’ve been together for years and years. Much longer than I’ve known either of them.
For Anytime Fitness to search for a new vendor is HUGE. You all should know just what a big deal this is. For us, this is a REALLY good sign!
If you get a chance, thank Anytime Fitness. It took courage and absolute dedication to the franchise…because there are friendships involved. As we all know, working with friends and family is frickin hard! Talk about co-dependant.
