In April, Nationwide officials decided to take another look at slab cases — those in which only a home’s foundation was left after the August 29, 2005 storm. According to a news release issued by the office of the George Dale, Mississippi Commissioner of Insurance, of the 641 slab cases being re-evaluated, 532 have been resolved. Negotiations continue for the remaining 109 claims.
State Farm officials also recently began looking at slab cases and other claims they denied after Katrina. The company sent out 30,000 letters to policyholders, offering to re-evaluate their claims. So far, 6,000 customers have responded, and the company has offered to pay an additional $20 million, State Farm spokesman Phil Supple said. Read more….
