I’m scouring the net, searching for “money making opportunities” and I come across this one called OTOGoldmine.
So… curious as ever, I decided to go & check it out.
So… what is OTO Goldmine? I have to say, it took me a little while to work it out, but it turns out it’s all about “one time offers” that you offer visitors (or regulars) that visit site. They basically offer software products (some quite good ones as well - I was fairly tempted by the “scratch card generator” that I was offered, but didn’t like the rest of the software).
So anyway, first things first - I go & visit website.
The first thing I noticed was how horrible website looked. It just screams “website that isn’t going to make you money” to me.
The way they have big red lettering, and scrawls and scrawls of words (of course you get bored well before the end, and just click “ok” - so I’m sure there’s plenty of fine print that you miss along the way).
I almost clicked the back button on my browser right then, but they did say “free joining”, so as I’m on a “money making mission” & can’t seem to get past that word “free”, I joined up.
It was really easy to join up, and you could login instantly. The one thing I hate about sites is when they send you a password, and then you have to wait a couple of hours before your mail server actually decides to deliver the email & you get the password (by which time you’ve already forgotten why you joined in the first place). So they got full points there. And… then once you’re in, you’ll find that there are basically a number of different ways you can promote their products, and you get a 75% cut of any products they sell: 1) By Changing any 404 Error pages on website into a sales pitch (now I thought this was pretty clever, but could be a bit confusing for your visitors). 2) After a Visitor has signed up for a newsletter, or membership to site (or unsubsribed for that matter) they’re taken to a one time offer page (obviously this is used A LOT on the web today, so I guess it must work (according to OTOGoldmine it has a 3.5% success rate)). 3) Just a plain old affiliate link (By the way - this was how I found out about OTOGoldmine in the first place). You can make money from people buying products, and also by referring other people that make a purchase at a later date. 4) Popup pages (p.s. - I truly HATE popups (they will even make me stop sites) & really recommend NOT using this method, as many other people also hate them). And.. the list goes on - you know how to promote things, and you’ve got your own methods. For each sale you make approximately $US 50.00. They pay by clickbank, so you’ll need to be a member (of clickbank) to promote them. So… do I think you’ll make much money from OTOGoldmine. Well to be honest, No I don’t (and yes - I’m not talking to those people that get heaps and heaps of traffic and can make money every time they scratch their arse). I guess I’m just a bit cynical about these “affiliate” type programs, where website itself (where you will be directing people) looks a bit like a no-go. I think, as with anything else - you will make money if you work on promoting the product. But… do you want to spend a lot of time promoting a product you don’t have full control over, and that could “disappear” from the net at any time? You would probably be better off buying resale rights to a product where you can create your website, and sell it for yourself. That way you can change the fonts if they look tacky, change the price if it’s too steep etc…. But - as I am always willing to give everything a go - here is an affiliate link to website OTOGoldmine. We’ll see how things go…
