The end of summer is a great time to give a child a special gift…an adventure book! The lazier days of late July/early August become sweeter as kids realize that a new school year is just around the corner. They yearn for one more great summer experience, and we can give this to them very simply, via a fabulous book.
What child or adolescent wouldn’t enjoy engaging in adventure and exploring a new world with the Three Musketeers, Jules Verne and the crew of the Nautilus, the Count of Monte Cristo, the Swiss Family Robinson, Tom Sawyer or Tolkien’s hobbits? These stories and others offer amazing, imaginative treasures for children who take the time to discover them…portals to eras and events in history (or outside of reality) where they may lose themselves for awhile. Often these books contain profound life lessons as well. They highlight values such as nobility, honesty, and courage.
So in the weeks ahead when you hear the familiar refrain There’s nothing to DO!, help your young person embark on a memorable adventure! Share a favorite adventure book!
