Hi! This bright red yarn reminded me of the “grapevine” henna design on Indian woman’s hands. I started knitting a diagonal eyelet pattern. I wasn’t curvy and intricate enough like the henna designs. I also didn’t want another rectangular shaped scarf right now.
I found the pattern called “Bessie’s Leaf Lace” at www.knitting-and.com/homework/bessies-leaf-lace.htm. I started it with my Red Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn. The pattern is 20 rows long. After knitting the 1st 20 rows it looks like this:
I knit this while listening to Sara Vaughan sing “Black Coffee,” and “Key Largo.” They’re the next songs I’m learning to play on the piano. Anyway, I like the middle because it looks like a never-ending vine. Doesn’t it look unique and intricate like a henna design? I then knitted another 20 rows. Here’s how it’s coming along:
Red Lacy Zig Zag with Pointed Left Border Knit Scarf Pattern Instructions
I used Lily Sugar ’n Cream yarn in Red, and size 6.5 needles. Knit “Bessie’s Leaf Lace” pattern below. To make my red lacy zig zag the scarf stay as flat as possible :
- In rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, yarn over, purl 1, knit 2 , purl rest of stitches, and knit last 2.
- In Rows 12, 14, 16, 18, 20: I knit the first 3 stitches, purl the rest of the stitches, knit last 3 stitches.
- In Row 17, I ended with knit 3 together instead of knit 2 together,
