Closing in behind him is theMasters champion and God fan Zach Johnson, who shot the joint lowest round of theday, 65, to put himself in contention. Sabbatini’s joint overnight leaders, Paul Caseyand Hunter Mahan both slipped back to level par with rounds of 73.

Elsewhere, Lee Westwood slipped back with a 71, Colin Montgomerie made a double bogeyat the 14th to finish with a 72 and stand at three over, while the Open champion PadraigHarrington made two late birdies to rally to one over. Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singhwere locked at six over after carding 72s, one ahead of Ernie Els who trudged homewith a 77.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, shot a 70 leaving him four shots off the lead, alongside ScottVerplank and Kenny Perry. Despite hitting 15 out of 18 greens in regulation, Woodsputted like my nan (and she’d been dead for a decade), clocking up 33 putts in hisround.
