I’m overweight. I have struggled with it just about my whole life. Up and down, up and down, up, up, up….and down….and back up.
I’m a 30s-something, intelligent, educated and professional woman. I have read countless dieting, diets, been to doctors, joined well-known programs, and spent thousands and thousands of dollars. I reached my goal or very close to it many times and with vastly different plans, whether it be Low-Carb, Low-Fat, Low-Calorie, No Dairy, No Wheat, No “Whites” (sugar and flour), Vegetarian, High Cardio, Strength Training, Consistent Daily Walks, and all kinds of combos of the aforementioned plans. I’ve tried Diet, the Diet, and Diet. I’ve eaten right for my type, kept in the zone, gone to south beach, and followed the diet. I’ve paid doctors, trainers, nutritionists, and endocrinologists. I’ve taken pills….appetite suppresants, synthroid, herbs, and vitamins….lots of herbs and vitamins.
It used to be all about my physical appearance. I wanted to be pretty and pretty meant thin. Then, I just wanted to feel a little better but mostly look good. Now, I just want to get healthy and most importantly, teach my kids how to live a healthy lifestyle so they don’t go through life with the same struggle I’ve had over the years.I have been reading for months now on nutrition and health. I’m trying to figure it all out. You’d think that it would be easy to find the answers with all the books, television shows, articles, e-books, reports, statistics, etc. that are out there. But, it’s not.
What is “eating clean”? Traditionally, it’s the type of eating that fitness/weight lifting trainers follow. However, I propose that it’s something more, something more profound. This blog documents my journey into the discovery of “eating clean”. If you share my struggles, I hope it benefits you, as well.
