About a year ago I had joined one of the internet dating services, and I’ve been on it on and off since then. The service that I chose was E-Harmony (AKA the Harm), and I chose it because it was a non-searchable site. I thought that it was important to keep the possibility of a co-worker finding my profile to a minimum.

That’s not the whole story behind my decision to join an internet dating service. I went to a local bar, had more to drink than I had expected, walked home (fortunately it wasn’t much more than a mile and I had a coat!), and pulled out the credit card. I have a friend that met his girlfriend on the Harm, and my drunkenness decided that if it could work for him, it could work for me.

Well, I woke up the next day and was surprised that I had spent $100+ on a three month subscription to said site. And because I couldn’t forever keep my embarrassment to myself, I had to tell a few friends. I had told three; the one I knew was on the Harm, a girl I knew, and another guy I knew. None of them knew one another, but all of them had been, or were currently on, some type of dating site.

I was shocked. Everyone is so hush hush about it, but the people that you talk to daily may be members to one of the many sites out there.

Since I’ve joined, I’ve only met one woman and saw her for a short while. I’ve talked to a few more over the phone, but never made it to an actual date with any of them (some choices for not meeting were my choosing, some were the ladies’ choosing).
