Of all of the stigmas in society, I always felt that internet dating was one of the stronger. I may just be behind in the times, but when I think of internet dating, I think of some big, fat, looser in a chat room telling equally as repulsive women that he looks like a construction worker. Thanks to the invention of networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook, the art of meeting girls can be mastered from the couch. It seems as though everyone is using this new social tool to meet their significant others and even just for one night stands. With features such as poking you can flirt flawlessly with members of the opposite sex and just by looking at someone’s profile, you can get a good feel for weather or not you are compatible. Just looking for friendship? It is only a friend request away.

The best part of all of this, in my opinion is that there is almost no guess factor. For those of us old enough to remember using AIM chat rooms and Y-Talk, there is no hit and miss. Though if you are old enough to remember these things, you probably also remember that the chances of getting anyone worth getting was about a snowball’s chance in hell. You are able to browse through millions of people, checking out such things as pics, to allow you to get the attraction factor out of the way. You can also browse things such as; favorite movies, books, music, activities and hobbies. This is all the better to find a potential date with out all of the uncomfortable small talk and silences.

It was just a few years ago that people were ashamed to admit that they had met up with people that they had met online. These days people are paying money, hand over fist, to sign up for such dating sites such as E-Harmony and others, casually searching for that certain someone. These people are not only using these sites, they are unashamed to be doing so, thus breaking down the stigma of the geek and the dork. So, to conclude, the internet has become more of a social networking tool in this decade than it has even been. This has made looking for that Mr. or Mrs. Wonderful more available and convenient than ever. Happy Hunting.
