I am not a super low carb eater but I do follow a simple weight management program called cinch. It focuses on balance and lower carbs like the South Beach Diet. One difference is that Cinch is loaded with Leucine to keep your muscle mass while losing fat. Since I have been eating lower carbs, 9 years now, I noticed that if I do indulge and have carbs especially late at night, that I wake up with a horrendous headache. For example, if I drink wine with my husband before bed without having cheese (or some protein) with it, I’ll wakeup with a terrible headache. You may think it is the alcohol, but not at all. All I need to do is have some protein with it and No, headache. If we go to a movie and I have popcorn, I’ll wake up with that CARB HEADACHE. It is terrible because it last all day and feels like your head will explode. With more research, it is considered a carb hangover. at least for me to feel excellent and still indulge at times, all I need to do is add some protein to my meal/snack. Sounds so simple, but it is remembering to do it or you will pay the price later. After a few times, you’ll never forget. So for all the low carb eaters that have suffered from a carb hangover, remember to add some protein to your snack or meals so you can feel excellent with balanced nutrition.
If you get a chance, check out weighins.com. It’s a supportive close-knit community for people wanting to lose weight. With a free membership you can join a weight loss challenge (like the Biggest Loser tv show). You also get a free calorie counter and personal diet journals. I like it much better than sparkpeople.
