the first date: Make your first date less stressful by tailoring your date so that includes a common interest, hobby or shared value. These are usually the things that helped you establish a connection in the first place. For example, if you both like a certain type of movie, it’s a good idea to see that type of movie. Just be sure to also include something that allows for some communication between the two of you, like coffee or a meal. After all, you won’t get to know much about each other if all you’re doing is sitting silently in the dark. If you decide to make a meal date, try to make it a lunch date instead of the stereotypical dinner date. With a lunch date you can combine it with a fun activity that both of you will enjoy. To some people a supper date can suggest a level of intimacy that may not be there or that you may not be ready for yet. Dates in public places are the safest and most practical when two near-strangers are trying to get to know each other better. If the idea of one-on-one dating makes you nervous, try a group outing with several other people you know. Some examples of such outings include charity auctions or a wine tasting event. When having a conversation look interested and meet eye contact. Ask questions that you genuinely want the answers to, and never ask questions just to fill the silence. Above all, respect the other person and he or she will respect you as well.
