No longer is Twitter merely a social networking site with people sharing random musings and daily adventures with strangers. Now, you may actually find it useful if you are attempting to shed a few pounds. Tweet What You Eat is the one of the newer Twitter off springs and this could be a good thing for dieters.

With the help of TWYE, you can set up a daily food diary and keep track of your food intake. You simply enter calories for the foods that you do know, and search a database for those foods for which you do not know the calorie count. Your entries will then show up as a Tweet on the Tweet What You Eat site. As far as I know, it doesn’t show up on the regular Twitter Tweets, although you must have a Twitter account to participate.

TWYE offers detailed instructions on how to get started and maintain an accurate food diary. You can enter information into your food diary via IM, phone, or the web. The site says it is simple and easy to set-up and maintain the diary, though I have yet to try it. It sounds like it could be kind of useful and maybe, just maybe, make dieting a little fun!

If you get a chance, check out weighins.com. It’s a supportive close-knit community for people wanting to lose weight. With a free membership you can join a weight loss challenge (like the Biggest Loser tv show). You also get a free calorie counter and a personal diet journal. I like it much better than sparkpeople.
