Since our culture seems to teach that the only way to truly be happy or to not be a loser is to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, it is hard to break up. I see boys and girls, men and women put up with a lot of bad stuff in relationships with the opposite sex because they are afraid to end it…..
In Sean Covey’s book, , a guide for teens, he gives a check list for knowing when to say “I’m outa here!”
Does Your Boyfriend or you cry all the time?
Do or say things that make you feel stupid, emabarrassed, or worthless?
Keep you from spending time with your family and friends?
Keep you from doing things you want to do, like keep a job or join a team?
Act super jealous or possessive?
Shove, shake, slap, or hit you?
Threaten to hurt or kill you or themselves?
Lie or hide things from you?
Always expect to get their way?
Covey suggests the safe way to break up is,
- On the phone (It is not safe to break up in person or being alone with person)
- Tell friends, family, and a minister about the abuse.
- Seek help to deal with feelings after break up….
