We’re back from San Antonio! As usual, I have lots to tell and probably not enough time to tell it. Being in vacation mode, I woke up at 6:30 this morning (not early enough to get a good blog in). Now I’m operating in naptime, which means crunch time for me because I have a lot to get done.

Short and sweet synopsis is: we had a great time in Texas!

We started the trip off with a night in Nashville visiting Trish, Brad, Emma and Megan. Fun times! I hope we’ll see more of them this summer, since they’re within driving distance now. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then a lot of riding around in the cul-de-sac. I think it’s time for official trikes now for the boys. The grown-ups stayed up for bonding over silly You Tube clips. Quite fun.

Once in San Antonio, we headed to Marlee, Ernesto and Anna’s. They were the perfect hosts.

A good part of our trip was dedicated to eating things we miss from there. Marlee and Anna joined us at Rudy’s (our favorite barbeque):

After church on Sunday we drove through Taco Cabana for potato and egg breakfast burritos. Our friends joined us again for breakfast on Tuesday at the Guenther House (this is where we get our favorite coffee). We also at at Chuy’s with our pals. We visited one of our favorite grocery stores — Central Market — not to buy much, really, but to drool a lot.

On Tuesday after b’fast and a trip to the children’s museum, we headed a short way out of town to see our friends Ann and Mike at their brand new, gorgeous lake house. We spent the day with them having fun in and on the water. Who knew Jake could drive a boat, eh? (Kidding, kidding.)

And here’s Ann swimming out to the boat with what may be my last alcoholic beverage for quite some time (white wine, of course, if you know Ann. She later made me a cosmo, too!).

Here’s our requisite River Walk picture from early that day (we also have a requisite Alamo picture I can share later):

And here are the boys “milking a cow” at the children’s museum. Their favorite things were the big train you could “drive” and the big plane you could “fly.” More pictures of all of this will appear in later posts I imagine.

We did a good bit of playgrounding (and as a result a good bit of sweating):

And Marlee and Anna joined us for a Sea World visit (more sweating — a lot of sweating). We saw the Shamu show, played with some foam blocks and saw the dolphins. It was really just too hot for much else. The park doesn’t open till 10 a.m. and it’s already an oven by then (esp. for little ones and Marlee, who is pregnant). Marlee and I were both moved to tears by the Shamu show, though. Maybe that’s worth $50.99/person (kids under 3 are free, so we didn’t have to pay for the boys — good thing b/c we might have left)?

Marlee, Anna and Ernesto have lots of cool Playdough toys that we all enjoyed:

Ernesto got up at 0-dark-thirty to make us breakfast before our return — yumBA: pancakes, sausage, strawberries and eggs. And here we are back!

You wonder: what about a large part of the reason you went to San Antonio in the first place? Well, the deed is done and we’ll know something in a couple weeks. I will keep everyone posted!

Since we’ve been home we’ve gotten a lot done. A ton of yardwork (Scott did the lion’s share on stuff but I did help a good bit) and … wait for it, as hell may have frozen over … we hung some pictures in our house!!! It only took us six months to get started on that, but hey!

We also have enjoyed our pool. The boys, with their swimmies-and-floating-suit combo, are loving the water and are very independent. More lessons are on the agenda for later in the summer. Yesterday we had some friends over to swim and gnosh. Good times, with the promise of more to come.

The only hiccup: Jake now has swimmer’s ear, which we’re treating with drops and antibiotics. Poor guy. He won’t be getting his head wet for a while.

I’ve blogged longer than I meant to already, so I must be off to do some stuff. More pictures to come, fear not! Happy day to everyone!
