Start of South Beach Diet I started South Beach in January for a second time. 2007 was a roller coaster year. Moving to a new state and of course a new job. Dad falling and breaking his leg and then being diagnosed with lung cancer. Then three months later Herm (husband) gets laid off. We of course I ate and drink myself silly. I lost 10 lbs but really didn’t give it a lot of effort. No work outs etc. Then May rolled around and I decided that enough was enough. I was bone thin….I mean bone thin until 13 years ago when imagine this…my Dad had cancer surgery, a year later my mom had cancer surgery and I had three surgeries in 1.5 years. Kaboooooooom! Metabolism slowed way down and the chocolate shakes and Chineese I ate to comfort me were only temporary comfort, but permament weight gain. So here I am overweight and unhappy about how I look AND feel everyday. So I took the Bull…or more accurately…the fridge door by the handle and slammed it shut. In June I began in earnest again. I lost five pounds, but still I wasn’t really working out and knew that I needed to make adjustments because the scale was just wasn’t going anywhere. See-sawing up and down but never any further then 174. I started using to track my calories and activity level. Its a great site. I realized that my sugar free, or fat free for that matter, Hazelnut creamer was derailing my weight loss. Also the low carb beer while cooking and the glass or two of wine at dinner wasn’t cutting it either. Liquid calories are KILLER CALORIES!! I was consuming 700 hundred calories in coffee (four big creamy beige mugs full) and alcohol a day! I also put cheese on everything. Not the best weight loss idea. I stumbled on Fatsecret will surfing for recipes and alternatives to Hazelnut creamer (PS there is none). I decided I’d “diet consultants” say you should dieting. From the lenghth of this that is obvious. Any way, I wrote down four things on a post it note that I decided I would stick on my lap top every morning and use it as a book mark at night. The whole “remind yourself of your goals” thing. Here is what it says: No coffee No alcohol Severely limit cheese intake Exercise everyday…if only you walk around the neighborhood. Well I followed by goals yesterday and today I lost a half pound. Well la tee freaking da! Seriously, I’ve skipped meals, more than a few, in the last few weeks to get that scale to move and notta. For now this is my ticket.
