Opera 9 is free to download and offers a number of built-in goodies such as Bit Torrent media support and desktop widgets these functions are not necessarily mean that everyone needs. For a look inside, see our Opera 9 slide show. We do really like Opera 9, but we want more than the cool, cutting-edge browser, and it is not as our everyday workhorse for the Internet. But we recommend the more Firefox browser.
As with the Internet Explorer Firefox, on the first use of Opera, the browser invites you to import your current Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds and mail from previous versions of Opera or other browsers.
The basic interface shares many of the same features as IE Firefox, but after the use of Opera 9 for a few days, we noticed a few irritating interface omissions. For example, in IE, Firefox, you can right-click on the Back arrow to see a menu that lists your most recently viewed pages. In the opera, a simple mouse over shows only the last visited URL of the page, a right-click offer a choice of either “toolbar remove” or “adjust” the icon, but there is no reference to the pages you have visited. On the other hand, Opera’s double-arrow back and double-arrow forward are quite unique and very nice, so you jump back by domain, rather than return to each side within a certain domain. Firefox offers many enhancements to its look and feel, opera, drawing on a much smaller developer community, offers only a few skins, keyboard shortcuts and default RSS feeds.
Opera 9 includes AJAX technology by offering small desktop applets called widgets. Widgets provide specific functionality, such as currency conversion, that stays on the desktop screen. But widgets are not new, they are all available on the Internet and will be a part of Microsoft Windows Vista when it launches next year. It is unclear why the browser has this feature - with the exception because it is cool.
Opera offers cool features for Web developers. All major Web standards supported by Opera, and if developers want their code to validate they can do it with the Ctrl + Alt + V and an online Validator analyze the source code of the page should be validated. There is also a small-screen mode to see how the page will look on a mobile phone, but it was a big difference in what my phone and what small-screen mode appears on the computer screen. Maybe I should install Opera mobile.
Full-screen mode is one of my favorite features and I use it sometimes when I want to concentrate on the content. I am not proud to say, but I got used to the wing full-screen mode IE any event in the opera is much cooler, as I can with the mouse gestures.
The kiosk mode is a function, the opera on the road. Information booths will be supported by a great browser, offers a lot of features for this environment. There are many switch to restrict users from a set of actions, should not be allowed in a kiosk, and there is also a nice feature URL filtering for limiting access to certain pages or specific file types to restrict or surfing only to some sites, turning around a point of interest.
At the end you should know that Opera surprised me again and, although I have been Firefox user for more than six months, I will discuss the switch. I’m really excited about Opera 9th
another useful feature is the new trash icon. Say you accidentally close a Web page that you want to keep open. Opera’s trash, you can reload this page quickly, without digging through the browser history file.
Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 Beta, Opera 9, you can customize and manage your search engines and frequently used passwords and block site content and pop-ups. We were less impressed by Opera’s default dealing with RSS feeds, which is clunky and not as stylized as that in the new versions of IE Firefox
